Pretty soon I depart for Vienna, Austria to hang out with the mySugr crew for a couple weeks.

I’m very excited – I’ve never been to Europe, and Vienna sounds like an incredible site to see. I’m also looking forward to meeting the incredible people at mySugr. I see them nearly every day via Skype, but it’s not quite the same as being in the same office. They are brilliant people, every last one of them. I’m going to learn so much.

As I packed my bags and prepared my diabetes supplies I was struck by this image.

A mountain of medicine

I feel in better health right now than I have in a very long time, which is why this visual (and time spent sorting and filling) hit me so hard.

    Interesting, isn’t it?
I have some ideas that help me; mostly ideas I’ve tried myself or that other PWD report help a little with this dichotomy.
Is it at all calming to think about the purpose of each pill? Would it help to put the mountain in a small plastic box or bin? It may be the difference between organized and organized chaos visually. :)
    Safe travels!!

  2. I’ll bet you have a blast Scott. We just came back from a week visiting family in Ireland. While in Austria, you can shop for some lederhosen. Enjoy the beer!

I’m so excited you are going to Vienna for a few weeks! And that you will meet the mySugr crew! I’ve been using the app for a few weeks now and I love it! I really want to meet with you face to face when you get back! Have fun!!

  4. It’s a bit overwhelming. But just for a second.
Where do you get those little pill pouches?
Have a safe journey, and talk to strangers!!!!

Scott, I wonder if it might help to think of what you might have had to pack if you weren’t doing so well? Anyway, I like your planning-ahead skills. And I’m seriously jealous (but in a good way) over your trip to Vienna!

I had the EXACT same thought when packing for Arizona last week. I stood there looking at a mountain of medical paraphernalia and thought, “I’m the healthiest sick person there is.”
