Find out what Diabetes Blog Week is all about. Check out the topics for each day’s posts, and even see a list of this year’s participants. Thank you, Karen!

The question I’m answering today? What would I most like to see change about diabetes, in any way? OR reflect back on some changes I’ve been through since being diagnosed with diabetes.

This is a great topic, and my mind goes in so many different directions. Changes with diabetes? Are you kidding? Yes, please!

I don’t have to explain that a lot has changed in the past thirty years with diabetes. We’re making great strides in many areas. We have a better understanding of how diabetes works. We have better ways to check blood sugars. We have more convenient ways to take medicine. It’s all really great, and I’m thankful for it. Really, I am.

But…

It’s all very primitive when you think about it.

When you boil it all down, we’re still finding different ways to squirt some stuff under our skin and stabbing ourselves with something sharp later to see if we guessed right.

Seems like we should’ve made more progress by now…

As thankful as I am for all of the tools I have available, there’s a whole lot I’d change about diabetes…

This is part of Diabetes Blog Week, where a standard set of prompts encourages a ton of really great blog posts from around the community. Here’s today’s prompt: “Today let’s talk about changes, in one of two ways.  Either tell us what you’d most like to see change about diabetes, in any way.  This can be management tools, devices, medications, people’s perceptions, your own feelings – anything at all that you feel could use changing.  OR reflect back on some changes you or your loved one has seen or been through since being diagnosed with diabetes.  Were they expected or did they surprise you?”
