July 5, 2019 By Scott K. Johnson Leave a Comment

My training schedule has officially started for #ScottsDeathRide (details here...) – I'm partway through week #2 as I write this. One thing I'm already loving is visiting with friends while riding bikes together. The other day I spent some quality time in the saddle with Sara and we talked about why she rides. It's a powerful story full of inspiration – I think you'll like … [Read more...] about #ScottsDeathRide – Sara and why she rides

As I really get rolling in my training plan for #ScottsDeathRide (details here...), I want to bring you up to speed on the cool rides, people, and stories that take place.  Not long ago, I connected with my friend George "(the original) Ninjabetic" Simmons for a great Father's Day ride.  Take a look at this quick video: George is awesome, and it was a blast … [Read more...] about #ScottsDeathRide – Father’s Day ride with George

JDRF TypeOneNation Summit in San Diego

June 3, 2019 By Scott K. Johnson 4 Comments

I attended my first JDRF TypeOneNation Summit since moving to San Diego and had SO MUCH FUN! My father-in-law and I spent countless hours watching boxing together over the past 20 years, so I was excited when I realized who walked in the room to kick things off. None other than former pro boxing IBF World Champion, Paul "The Ultimate" Vaden! He's been supporting JDRF since 2004 … [Read more...] about JDRF TypeOneNation Summit in San Diego

Today is another special day for me! Thanks for joining me on this little celebration hike that I'm doing today. It's a pretty big day for me! There are all these awesome trails that couldn't be more than five minutes away from my house. So, I … [Read more...] about 39 years of living well with diabetes – celebrate with me!

The power of small, simple steps

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of SPLENDA® Naturals. The opinions and text are all mine. I can be a little stubborn sometimes. I believe being stubborn can be a helpful attribute – especially for diabetes management and trying to stay healthy. When diabetes throws me a curve ball, it's up to me to recalibrate my expectations and get back on … [Read more...] about The power of small, simple steps

Time without CGM? No big deal, right?

October 22, 2018 By Scott K. Johnson 9 Comments

I am a big fan of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). I've used CGM for a more than a decade. I think it's a tremendously valuable layer of information, and I'd argue that continuous glucose monitoring has been the the biggest improvement in diabetes since blood sugar monitors became available in the mid 1980s.  Aside from the high and low alerts, continuous monitoring … [Read more...] about Time without CGM? I refuse to accept it as normal

July 30, 2018 By Scott K. Johnson 7 Comments

But do not forget that we stab ourselves with sharp metal objects, squirt some stuff under our skin, and bleed on things to see if we guessed the amount right. This is what passes … [Read more...] about I refuse to accept it as normal
