Type-1 University

Type-1 UniversityAre you an “insulin user who wants focused, expert information that is relevant to your daily life?” (from their press release).  You might be interested in a new project that Gary Scheiner recently launched called Type-1 University.

Gary is looking to overcome some of the challenges that keep many of us from taking advantage of the education available (busy schedules, travel, parking, out-of-pocket costs, and not knowing what’s out there).   Type-1 University (T1U) addresses some of those challenges by providing interactive education available online.

The syllabus continues to grow, but already has some great topics:

  • Mastering Pump Therapy
  • Advanced Carb Counting
  • Blood Glucose Control During Sports & Exercise
  • Weight Loss for Insulin Users
  • Getting the Most from Your Continuous Glucose Monitor
  • Strike The Spike: After-Meal Glucose Control
  • Hypoglycemia Prevention and Management
  • Fine-Tuning Basal Insulin

Type-1 University That list excites me – I am sure I could learn a ton of things from each and every one of those sessions.   There are two ways to participate in the courses.  There are live courses, listed at about thirty dollars per session, scheduled at a number of different days and times, and there are pre-recorded sessions at around twenty dollars per session.  The recorded courses are a little less interactive, you don’t have the ability to ask questions on the spot, but they can be watched any time of the day or night.  Grab a copy of this handout and think about checking out a class or two.  If you do try a class, please let me know how you like it.  I’ll be sure to do the same.

In the spirit of disclosure and transparency, Gary has offered me a class free of charge.  I would post about this even without that offer, because I think it’s a good idea and I’d like to see more of this type of thing.   Also – kudos to Gina Capone for designing the logo (looks great Gina!).
